A1:It is recommended that you trim nails once every two weeks. This is because frequent nail trimmings will ensure that the nail stays short and healthy. Untreated nails will cause complications such as nail bed injury, overgrown quick and other issues.
Q2: Is ear hair removal nesscessary for all dogs?
A2:Not all dogs require a ear hair reomval, it is depdent on their breed. Some common examples are Shih Tzu and Poodles. Ear hair cleaning can effectively help reduce ear odur and the risk of infections.
Q3:How often should I bring my pet to grooming?
A3:It is recommended to bring your pet to grooming every 4 to 7 weeks. The full grooming should be done once every 6 weeks and the bath & tidy should be done once every 4 weeks. If during anytime your fluffy friend gets dirty you can also bring him/her in for just a quick clean up.
Q4:What is and how often should I take my dog for an anal gland expression.
A4: When smaller dogs goes to the bathroom, there is a build up in the anal gland that needs to extracted once every month. The anal gland expressions can help prevent infections, swelling and other complications. When you see your fluffy friend dragging his/her's butt on the ground it is a sign that they are in need of a anal gland expression.
Q5: What is matting and how do I prevent it?
A5: Matting is the grooming term for when the fur gets tangled and stuck together. Matting occures when a dog has not been brushed enough, it will often feel like groups of hair stuck together forming a hard clump. Matting can cause several skin issues if not dealt with properly, skin infection, hot spots, excessive scratching are just some examples. To prevent matting you want to make sure that you are brushing your fluffy friend every other day and ensuring that he/she remains dry.
Q6: My dog is matted what can I do?
A6: If your dog is matted you want to book a grooming appointment as soon as possible.
Depending on how matted your pet is there is one of two things we can do. Either to shave him/her to whichever length nesscessary to get rid of the matting or do the dematting service. It is important to know that washing at home will not help witht he matting issue and will only worsen the situation. Developing a good habit of brushing will ensure that your pets coat stays healthy and the groomers can cut him to whichever length and style you perfer.
